My Approach
I started my own professional journey by completing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and Welfare Studies, at Central Queensland University (yes, I am a country girl at heart!). Wanting to pursue further study, I moved to Brisbane to complete an Honours degree in Psychology, followed by a PhD at the University of Queensland. Working then as an academic I developed a genuine love of teaching and supporting other people to believe in themselves and experience their own potential.

After several years working as an academic in psychology, I trained in crisis counselling and worked with Lifeline and Kids Helpline. I loved the experiences in these roles, and was encouraged in my own journey to complete my professional training in psychology and counselling and became a registered psychologist.

Since then I have continued to teach psychology and counselling in various institutions, and have worked in not-for-profit organisations and private practice. More recently I co-founded a community counselling program called Walk and Talk for Wellness (walkandtalkforwellness.com) which has been successfully operating in the Gold Coast region since 2020.

As an educator and a therapist, I love to combine these two aspects of my life. I have now worked for over 20 years in the higher education sector, as a lecturer and academic staff developer. I enjoy being part of the learning process, inspiring others, and being inspired by those around me.
This flows into my counselling work, where I have spent over 10 years working particularly with young people, supporting them in their journey from adolescence to adulthood, and learning about themselves and the world in which they live.
A big part of what I enjoy about teaching and counselling is the creativity that comes with developing curriculum, or developing therapeutic "space" and process. Engaging my creative skills is something I do through nature, art, craft, music, and writing; all these things I integrate into my work with others.

Giving back to the profession is also an important part of my work, and I enjoy supporting new counsellors through supervision. I am a trained supervisor, and have worked with groups and individuals in both teaching and practice settings.

I look forward to meeting with you and creating space together!
